No, and the reason is instructive. Icariin, its active compound, really does inhibit PDE5 in laboratory assays — the same enzyme class targeted by sildenafil. But it does so roughly a thousand times more weakly, and the concentrations that produce the effect in a dish are far above anything a daily capsule puts into human tissue. The finding is real. The extrapolation is not.

  1. Concentration. An assay exposes the enzyme directly to a known concentration. A capsule has to be absorbed, survive first-pass metabolism and reach the tissue at a level that does something.
  2. Bioavailability. Icariin is poorly absorbed orally. Much of what you swallow never reaches circulation as icariin at all.
  3. Dose. Reaching the concentrations used in the laboratory would require an amount of extract far beyond what any product contains.
